Building Consent Process
How does the process work?
OWNER provides sketch plans of the proposal

Receives a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) from Council

Design the project

Plans checked by the Council for compliance with the New Zealand Code

Receives a Building Consent allowing construction

Receives a Code Compliance Certificate on completion

Hurunui District Council issues a Compliance Schedule to the owner of the building that contains special safety features (i.e. sprinkler systems requesting required maintenance, inspection and servicing

The owner certifies compliance with the above request at yearly intervals to the District Council, this certificate is termed a Warrant of Fitness
