Policies

Membership

• Membership is free to all people living or paying rates within the Hurunui District.  Membership is funded through Council rates
• A subscription or temporary membership is available
• There is no age restriction on joining the library
• Your library card will entitle you to borrow from any public library in the district.  Returns can be made at any of the following libraries: the District Library (Amberley), Amuri (Culverden), Cheviot, Hawarden, and Hanmer Springs
• Cards must be presented to borrow from the District Library - other libraries may have alternative arrangements  
• Lost or damaged membership cards may incur a cost for replacement

Loan Policies

• Most items at all libraries have a loan period of three weeks.  Magazines are one week issue at some libraries
• Audio-visual items tagged ‘Hot Favourites’ are issued for one week
• Up to 20 items can be borrowed at one time

Renewals

• Items can be renewed twice if not reserved by others
• Telephone renewals are welcomed
• Renewal of overdue items may incur a charge
• Renewal of rental items will incur an additional rental charge

Rental

There are rental charges on Music CDs, DVDs and videos.

Fines

Fines are charged for overdue materials.

Replacement Costs

Items which are not returned, lost or damaged will be charged at the cost of replacement. 

Donations

Donations to the library are welcome.  We reserve the right to manage them in line with our Collection Development policies.
