Operative Plan Change 7 - Quarrying and Mining
Plan Change 7 became operative on 17 August 2009.
The plan change:
- Changes the status of hard rock Q&M from a discretionary to a non-complying activity when locating within 500m of a residential area.
- Provides for residential activity as a non-complying activity if locating within 500m of a hard rock Q&M.
- Changes statements of the resource management issue, policies and explanations concerning Q&M activity.
- Adds a new definition for 'hard rock quarrying', and refer to that as a particular type of quarrying in the policies.
- Provides for small quantity gravel extraction from specific riverbeds and on farm as a permitted activity.

Hearings panel's recommendations
The Council adopted the hearings panel's recommendations on 30 April 2009. As a result the proposed change has been amended from that which was notified. The relevant sections of the District Plan with the proposed changes incorporated are included in the decision. These changes are open to appeal for 30 working days from notification of the decision.
