Proposed Plan Change 7 - Quarrying and Mining
Proposed Plan Change No. 7 was first notified on 12 March 2005. Given the length of time that has passed since notification, and because there have been changes in property ownership across the district; the Council decided to re-notify the plan change on 9 August 2008 to enable additional submissions to be lodged.
The plan change seeks to:
- Change the status of Q&M from a discretionary to a non-complying activity when locating within 500m of a residential area.
- Provide for residential activity as a discretionary activity if locating within 500m of a commercial Q&M.
- Change statements of the resource management issue, policies and explanations concerning Q&M activity.
- Add a new definition for 'hard rock quarrying', and refer to that as a particular type of quarrying in the policies.
- Provide for small quantity gravel extraction from specific riverbeds as a permitted activity.
