Kate Valley Landfill
Transwaste has developed a Landfill at Kate Valley in North Canterbury, to serve the Canterbury region. Resource consents under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) from the Hurunui District Council and Environment Canterbury have been granted.
Landfill Site
The Kate Valley Regional Landfill site is located within coastal hill country approximately 10 km to the north-east of Amberley off Mt Cass Road, Waipara. It is approximately 9 km by road from the intersection of State Highways 1 and 7 (the Hanmer Springs turn-off).

The site of the landfill is within the 2758 ha Tiromoana Station, which is currently owned by Tiromoana Station Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canterbury Waste Services Limited (CWS). The landfill footprint (i.e. the area of the site which would ultimately be used for the placement of waste) occupies 37 ha, and has associated facilities and buildings, access roads and tracks, water supply and sedimentation ponds, landscape plantings, and forestry activities.
Transwaste Canterbury Limited is a joint venture. Half of its shares are owned by five local authorities (Christchurch City Council, Hurunui, Waimakariri, Selwyn and Ashburton District Councils), with the other 50% of its shares owned by Canterbury Waste Services Limited.
