Mt Cass Wind Farm

FORM 12 – PUBLIC NOTICE OF AN APPLICATION FOR A RESOURCE CONSENT UNDER SECTIONS 93(2), 94C & 127 OF THE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ACT 1991

Application

The Hurunui District Council has received an application for resource consent as detailed below:

Applicant:    MAINPOWER New Zealand Limited

Type of application:   Landuse

Proposed activity:  Land use consent to establish and operate Mt Cass Wind Farm. Three turbine envelopes are proposed to allow flexibility for the final turbine choice.

Location:   Mt Cass Wind Farm is to be situated in the vicinity of Mt Cass Ridge.  Mt Cass Ridge is located approximately 5.5km south-east of Waipara and approximately 10km north-east of Amberley. Access to the site is off Mt Cass Road.  A construction laydown area, situated adjacent to Mt Cass Road, is located approximately 2.0km from the Mt Cass Road, State Highway 1 and State Highway 7 intersection. The application includes upgrading a section of Mt Cass Road.

Submissions

Submissions closed on Friday 1st August 2008. A total of 339 submissions were lodged on the application. Of the 339 submissions, 116 opposed the application with the remainder being either in support or neutral.


Further information

Pursuant to section 92 of the Resource Management Act 1991, the applicant has provided further information with respect to ecological and noise assessments. This documents can be downloaded as below.


Hearing

The section 42A Officers report was circulated to all parties on 31st October 2008. This document with appendices can be downloaded as below.

The hearing concluded on 12 February 2009 and the decision was released on 2 April 2009.  The decision is being appealed by Mainpower New Zealand Ltd.
