All Black honoured with street dedication

The Council has endorsed Amberley Ward Committee’s recommendation to name a new street in a subdivision Retallick Way.

In May 2012, the Council approved a resource consent to subdivide the property at 51 Amberley Beach Road into 37 residential lots. Retallick Way is the smaller of two roads created access the lots.

As well as honoring the young raising star All Black, local lad Brodie Retallick, the naming is also a tribute to the Retallick family name which has been present in the Amberley town for many years.

William Thomas Retallick purchased land in what is the ‘Brew Moon’ now in the 1860s.  After that he managed the farm ‘Teviotdale’ for some time before purchasing more land at Ram Paddock Road which was owned later by Tom and Margaret Retallick.  Margaret sold the farm when Tom died and moved into the subdivision behind the medical centre a few years ago.  William Thomas Retallick also built a house on land he owned on the corner of Innes Road and Glasnevin Road, just over the railway line on the right.  He died around 1926.
