Call for cash not goods for quake affected regions
Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (CDEM) are asking people to NOT donate goods at this stage, instead donate to one of the relief funds set up such as the Hurunui District Mayoral Fund or the Red Cross Appeal.
“It’s great to hear so many generous offers of support from individuals and groups around NZ. But for now, people are being asked not to donate goods and food,” says Hurunui District Council CE Hamish Dobbie.
“Relief funds have been set up, including our own Mayoral Fund and donating money to these is a good way to show your support. You can also help by checking up on your family, neighbours and anyone who might be feeling isolated across the country. Continue to support each other and ask for help if you need it, there is no shame in calling in help from a mate if you need it.”
Here are details of some of the relief funds you can support:
Hurunui Mayoral Fund – consider donating to Our Mayor Welfare Fund instead. Donations will support those affected by the 7.8 quake.
Donations can be made at any service centre/library in the Hurunui District or can be e-deposited into the bank account 03-0802-0946666-00. If you are making an electronic donation please use the reference EQ FUND.

Contact your local welfare centre if you to have non-perishable goods to donate and offers of help. Most centres are compiling lists of items and names.
