Civil Defence Emergency Management - Get Ready Get Thru Week

Next week from 23-29 September, is Get Ready Get Thru Week where there will be a range of activities nationwide aimed at raising awareness of potential hazards and the need to be prepared.

Nationally the theme of the week is "Know your neighbours, know your community" and while a lot of people in the Hurunui district already know their neighbours, since the quakes, many newcomers have arrived.

Next week is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and to make a plan to help one another Get Ready, Get Thru.

Alongside the national advertising campaign promoting preparedness, the Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group will also be providing "7 tips 7 days"; advice ranging from saying ‘hi’ to your neighbours, to planning for your pets and being prepared for any particular, personal needs like medication.

These tips will be published in the newspaper, on the Canterbury CDEM Facebook page and on the CDEM website.

The Canterbury CDEM Group is made up of the city, district and regional councils from Kaikoura in the north to Waimate in the south, between the Southern Alps and the east coast. Each council has an emergency operations centre with the emergency co-ordination centre based in Christchurch.
