Council adopts hearing panel recommendations on submissions to Proposed Hurunui District Plan

After nearly three weeks of hearings in May and June of this year the hearing panel, appointed by the Hurunui District Council, has issued its decisions on submissions to the proposed Hurunui District Plan. The council resolved to adopt those recommendations at its meeting on 22 September 2016. The council also resolved to publically notify the decisions on 15 October 2016.
Judith Batchelor, Manger Regulatory Services said “copies of the council decision and a marked up version of the Proposed District Plan, as amended by decisions on submissions, will be available on the council website and council service centres and libraries”.
This milestone marks another step in the council’s four year development programme to review the operative District Plan. The development of the proposed plan has involved significant engagement with landowners and stakeholders throughout the district.
While the council decision may not meet everyone’s expectations, the hearing panel have balanced the needs of the predominantly farming and tourist economy with the council’s obligations under higher order resource management documents which set the national and regional frameworks for resource management.
Submitters have 30 days to lodge appeals on the council decisions.
