Earthquake puts wind farm application on hold
An application for resource consent to establish a wind farm near Greta Valley has been put on hold.
The application from Meridian Energy for the project, known as Project Hurunui Wind, seeks land use consent to establish, operate and maintain the wind farm in the vicinity off Centre Hill.
It was filed at the end of last month but is yet to be publicly notified.
The process has been put on hold because of the impact on the February earthquake on the ability of the Canterbury Regional Council to attention the application within required Resource Management Act timeframes.
Environmental Services Manager, Judith Batchelor, says the Council appreciates the community was aware the application had been lodged and wants to reassure submitters they will have an opportunity to have a say on the proposal.
“Since it was publicly announced Meridian had filed its application circumstances have overtaken us and we have had no choice but to postpone the matter, But we appreciate the delay may not have filtered through to potential submitters.
“The process has not yet begun. When it does, we will be formally notifying the application at to ensure our community is able to fully participate.”
At this stage it is not known when the application may be able to proceed.
