Fast, reliable broadband could be coming to Amberley
This week the government has released a list of towns that could potentially be included in the next stage of rolling out Ultrafast Broadband (UFB2), and Hurunui District Council is pleased that Amberley has been identified in this process. The council and Enterprise North Canterbury participated strongly in the expressions of interest process for UFB2, the second Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI2) and Mobile Blackspot Fund (MBSF) initiatives.
While the council is pleased that Amberley has been included in the proposed UFB2 list, the ultimate decision on whether Amberley will receive Ultrafast Broadband will depend on Crown Fibre Holdings deciding on how to best maximise coverage across New Zealand within the $152-$210m of available funding. This decision is likely to be made in early 2016 and the decisions regarding RBI2 and MBSF will be made following the UFB2 decision.
The council and Enterprise North Canterbury will continue to advocate strongly for Hurunui district townships to be included in this and future roll outs.
