Hanmer Springs Thermal Pool & Spa Chair to stand down
The Hurunui District Council has accepted Chair of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa Management Committee, Graham Heenan’s, resignation from the Committee effective 31 December 2012. Mr. Heenan has been a member of the Management Committee for 16 years with the last four years as the Committee’s Chair.
Mayor Winton Dalley commented that Heenan’s contribution over the past 16 years to the Pools and Spa complex has been outstanding.
“His [Heenan’s] passion and commitment to its success has been evident in the way he has championed, promoted and advocated for the Pools and Spa for the now and the future. The changes that have taken place in the years he has been part of the Management Committee are many and his success is evidenced by the many international and national awards the Pools and Spa has received over the years, and the growing popularity of the complex. Certainly, the success of the Pools and Spa has put Hanmer Springs on the map.”
Mayor Dalley went on to say that Heenan can be “justifiably proud” of both the success and time he spent on influencing the future and direction of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, and wished him the very best for his future and offered his “sincere thanks for his fine contribution”.
The Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa Management Committee has seven members, two of whom are independent members. The other independent member, Tony Sewell is the Deputy Chair and acts as Chair in the Chairperson's absence. The other members are Mayor Dalley, Cr Malthus, Cr Cooper, Jason Fletcher (Community Board Chair) and Jason Beck (Manager Financial Services).
Both independent members were reappointed in November 2011 by the Council for a three year period (ending 1 December 2014).
The Council will shortly advertise and invite applications for the position. The Council last advertised for a new independent committee member in mid-2008. The interest was high at that time with 47 strong applications being received.
