Hurunui River health and phosphorus limits key focuses for zone committee
The Hurunui-Waiau Zone Committee will meet at 3pm on Monday, 17 August, in Wailkari for its monthly water management meeting.
The meeting will begin with an update from the Regional Committee, which considers issues of regional significance. This will be followed by an update from dryland farmers.
The committee will then discuss how it can involve the community better in water management decisions and keep them up-to-date with the progress being made to deliver key targets in the zone.
Next, the committee will receive a report from Environment Canterbury summarising Amuri Irrigation Company’s water and land-use consents and the process that is involved when considering a resource consent application.
Following this, the committee will receive a presentation from Environment Canterbury on its 2015 CWMS Targets Report. The targets are an agreed way to measure progress of how the community’s aspirations for water management are being delivered across the region.
The committee will finish the meeting with a presentation from Ngai Tahu Property on their preferred integrated water infrastructure plan for the Hurunui catchment.
The Hurunui-Waiau Zone Committee is a joint committee of Environment Canterbury and Hurunui District Council. It includes five community members, two Rūnanga representatives, and one each from Hurunui District Council and Environment Canterbury.
