Hurunui staff member assists the Chatham Islands
Hurunui District Council’s Emergency Management Officer, Allan Grigg has been providing support to the Chatham Island residents this week following Tropical Cyclone Pam. Allan flew out early Monday morning alongside two other Canterbury civil defence staff.
Now that Topical Cyclone Pam has passed the Chatham’s the group’s main focus is to assist with an island wide Impact Assessment which will gather important information for the recovery stage.
“Providing support to the Chatham Islands is a valuable learning tool for our staff and gives an important boost to those already on the ground and is a great example of rural communities helping each other out.” said Hurunui District Council CEO Hamish Dobbie. “We really appreciate Allan being so willing to head there to help out”.
