Hurunui website in Top Ten

The results of ALGIM’s annual web audit have just been released, and Hurunui District Council’s website has rocketed up to ninth on the ranking list of all 78 local government websites in New Zealand.

The Association of Local Government Information Managers (ALGIM) runs the annual online services awards, which recognise and celebrate best practice in online services amongst New Zealand local authorities.

The achievement for the small North Canterbury council is even more remarkable given that Hurunui District Council does not even employ a website administrator. The website is updated and maintained by inhouse customer service and technical officers - making it a genuine team effort. Each department has one-two people who take ownership of ‘their’ pages, and take pride in keeping these current and relevant.

“We are elated that our site has been given this recognition from ALGIM,” said Andrew Dalziel, Hurunui District Council Chief Executive Officer. “We’re very proud of our website and have worked really hard to create something that reflects our council’s strong customer focus – resulting in a site that looks good but is also easy for people to use.

The awards take into account how well a site meets New Zealand Government web standards, how quickly enquiries from the web are answered, website functionality, online services available and accessibility of PDFs. The web standards look at the quality of the content, design and technical issues.
