Leithfield Village Reserve
In June 2010 the Council purchased two adjoining sections of land in Leithfield Village totalling 4988 sq metres, as a possible recreation reserve. The purchase was financed from the Thermal Pools surpluses, pending further discussion on the need for a reserve of that size in that location. The Council resolution at that time requested that consideration be given to selling off part of the land to either repay the Council funds or finance development of a reserve on the remainder. Subsequently a majority of Leithfield residents have expressed a strong preference for retaining all of the land for a reserve.
At the meeting today, the Committee agreed to retain the entire area of possible reserve land and designate it as reserve under the Reserves Act 2007. The Committee agreed that funding of the purchase price be confirmed as coming from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa surpluses.
