New Appointment to Hurunui Tourism Board

Mayor Winton Dalley has today announced that Janice Fredric has been appointed as the new independent member on the Hurunui Tourism Board.

Ms Fredric is a Christchurch based independent director. She has significant senior management experience, a broad portfolio of current and past directorships and is a chartered accountant. She was awarded the prestigious Canterbury IoD Aspiring Director Award in 2012.

Mayor Dalley said Ms Fredric emerged as the successful candidate after a very rigorous selection process that attracted numerous high quality candidates.

“The Councillors were extremely impressed that Ms Fredric has such a strong mix of commercial experience including relevant tourism industry knowledge gained from her positions as a former National Board Member and Chair of YHA NZ Inc” said Mayor Dalley. “The Councillors were also delighted to find that she also has many family connections throughout the Hurunui district – having been born in Waikari.”

Ms Fredric said that she is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities this new position will present.

"I'm excited to be appointed to the role and look forward to contributing to the success of the Hurunui Tourism Board."

The Hurunui Tourism Board is a Council committee chosen for their business skills and insights relative to the business of tourism in Hurunui, as well as their knowledge and representation of the district.

The Board membership comprises:

• The Mayor

• Councillors (3)

• Industry Members (3)

Representatives (one each) from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa Management Committee, The Waipara winegrowers Association and the Hanmer Springs Business Association

• Independent Professional Members (2)
