New CEO Announced

Mayor Winton Dalley announced today that Hamish Dobbie has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Hurunui District Council.

Mayor Dalley said Mr Dobbie emerged as the successful candidate after a very rigorous recruitment process that attracted numerous candidates from throughout New Zealand and overseas.

Mr Dobbie has spent the last six years as Chief Executive Officer of Lakes Environmental Limited, a Council Controlled Organisation with approximately 85 staff, delivering regulatory services to the Queenstown Lakes District Council and others. Prior to this role he held executive business development, processing and technical management positions.

Mayor Dalley said that the Councillors were extremely impressed that Mr Dobbie has such a strong mix of commercial and local government experience along with an extensive rural and horticultural background.

“We think that Hamish’s unique mix of skills and experience make for an excellent “fit” with our community, and given recent changes to local government legislation and signals coming from central government, we are confident that Hamish will be a valuable addition to our team and play an integral part in the next development phases of our Council and the Hurunui district.

Mr Dobbie said that he is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities his new position will present.

"I'm thrilled to be appointed to the role and look forward to working with Winton and his team."

A keen outdoorsman, Mr Dobbie said that he is also looking forward to the opportunity of being able to experience the local skifields and to exploring the Hurunui district with his family.

Hamish Dobbie will start his new role on 16 September.

Mr Dobbie replaces CEO Andrew Dalziel who has served this District well over the last six years and has taken up a position at Ashburton District Council. We wish Andrew well as he takes up the challenge of advancing his career.
