The LGA will not be enacted before the election
The Government has now confirmed that due to a busy legislative agenda, the Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill (No 3) will not be passed by Parliament before the general election on 20 September 2014.
The timing of the passing of the Bill will be something that is determined following the election and the reconvening of Parliament. Until the Bill is changed the existing provisions of the Local Government Act 2002 and other Acts amended by the Bill continue to apply.
The Bill has a number of implications for the forthcoming round of Long Term Plans (LTPs), particularly changes to development contributions, the introduction of the 30 year infrastructure strategy, the creation of a new consultation document for the LTP, changes to the content of the LTP and nature of the audit.
