Draft Zone Implementation Programme
The Hurunui Waiau Zone Committee was the first of the new water committees to be established under the Canterbury Water Management Strategy. www.canterburywater.org.nz
It consists of representatives of the Hurunui District Council and seven community members chosen following a thorough selection process to find the best combination of people with the range of interests and expertise to ensure the collective strength of the committee.
These range from leading edge farming to a leading national horticulturalist, QE11 biodiversity covenants, recognised environmental leadership, strong recreational pursuits and local Hurunui community and business interests.
Over its first year of operation it has identified critical information gaps in relation to land use and water quality, and major storage options within it’s management area.
These gaps and areas for further discussion are highlighted in a draft Zone Implementation Programme 'ZIP' which is now out for public comment.
Because the document is a work in progress the Committee welcomes your comments, but will need to receive them by 3 June 2011.
The Zone Committee also plans to meet with a wide range of organisations and interest groups where this 'ZIP' will be the basis for discussion.
