Inland road - pavement reconstruction works - Lulus Creek
As part of the Hurunui District Council's on-going Pavement Improvement Program, and thanks to a special funding allowance from NZTA, works are due to begin shortly on the Inland Road approximately 3km north of the Mt Lyford Village community, at an area commonly referred to as Lulus Creek.
Ferguson Brothers Ltd have been contracted to carry out the work which will include, but will not be limited to:
- The raising of the existing roading alignment by up to 600mm
- Installation of an upgraded drainage network, increasing the current capacity by a factor of 4
- Construction and installation of gabions to greatly reduce the scouring effects of the adjacent Mason River.
This project represents the second phase of these works (Phase 1 – Groyne Protection, was completed in November, 2010) and will greatly increase this section of roads ability to resist flooding and subsequent damage.
Road users should expect minor delays (up to 10 minutes) when travelling along this section of the Inland Road until the end of March.
Please be assured that every effort is being made to minimise the construction period and the disruptions that are likely to affect road users.
Also we would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience road users may encounter whilst these vital works are being carried out.
