Lifting of fire restrictions

Lifting of fire restrictions

Notice is hereby given that the previously advertised Restricted Fire Season, which extended over the whole of the Hurunui Rural Fire Authority area, is LIFTED from 6am Thursday 24th March 2011.

Fires may now be lit in the open without a permit.
All residents and landowners are requested to take care when lighting fires in the open, and are reminded the legal liability  for costs associated with fighting fire escapes lie with the person lighting the fire.
Before lighting any fire in the open, due consideration must be given to weather conditions, adequacy of fire breaks, availability of your own fire suppression and the patrolling of fires until completely out.

Please ensure you notify your local fire brigade before burning so volunteer brigades are not turned out unnecessarily to controlled fires.

Property owners within the hill and high country areas, the Ashley Rural Fire District and Department of Conservation fire safety margains are reminded special fire control measuers are in place all year round within these areas, and that the relevant authority should be contract for a permit prior to any burning.
