Environment Canterbury - Environment Canterbury is the promotional name for the Canterbury Regional Council, an elected body of fourteen councillors.  The Regional Council was formed from 33 different bodies with regional and resource management roles in November 1989. The main role of the Council is the promotion of sustainable management of natural and physical resources, primarily under the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Local Government Act 2002.

Hanmer Heritage Forest Trust - The Hanmer Heritage Forest Trust was established under the Charitable Trusts Act at the end of 2001 to preserve and manage the public values of Hanmer Forest, North Canterbury, with particular emphasis on the oldest established part of the Forest, over which there is a Crown covenant to preserve the Forest’s character.  The Trust has been set up in response to the Canterbury District Health Board’s announcement of its intention to sell the site of Queen Mary Hospital in Hanmer Springs.  Many people are concerned that the special nature of the site will be lost to commercial development.
