As well as the recreational events, projects and informal education that our programme provides, we also facilitate youth leadership opportunities. These are include, but not limited to, Hurunui Youth Council and Activity Leaders.
Hurunui Youth Programme Events Team (12 - 24 years)
Hurunui Youth Programme involves youth informed and led events and activities for you and your peers. This may be at school, in community and on the school holiday programme. We have two voluntary positions available: HYP youth leader and HYP event crew.
- Meet regularly as a team in your school or community
- Be recognised as a leader
- Lead lunch time activities at your school or community group
- Plan, promote and attend awesome youth events
- Share your ideas and thoughts on important youth topics
- Support your peers to be the best they can be
- Grow your leadership skills
- Work with Hurunui Youth Council
- Attend training camps and personal development workshops
- Meet new people, have new opportunities, gain new experiences
- Build friendships and become part of our HYP Crew!
Hurunui Youth Programme Events Team have an open application throughout the year, just chat to the Youth team.
What does it involve and time commitment?
HYP youth leader work in small team to devise, plan and run events and activities. It requires minimum 1 hour a week planning and 3 hours + a month at events.
HYP event crew are there on the day of events and activities to help set up and run the events. Requires 1-3 hours+ a month.
What type of events?
These will depend on the youth leaders, but in the past have included BBQ’s, movie nights, trips to Christchurch, Team games, First aid courses, formals. The list is endless!
Is there any training?
HYP youth leader will attend 3 day training course with a focus on how to plan and lead events.
HYP event crew will attend a 1 day training with a focus on how to set up and run events.
Do you need to be at school?
No, but you do need to live in the Hurunui and be aged 12-24 years.
Hurunui Youth Council (HYC) (14½ - 24 years)
- Be recognised as a member of the Hurunui Youth Council
- Attend Council meetings and represent the voice of young people
- Speak up about topics that impact youth and advocate for issues that are important to young people
- Learn about the world of governance and local politics
- Collaborate with other local Youth Councils
- Grow your leadership skills
- Work with Hurunui Youth Programme Events Team
- Attend awesome training camps and personal development workshops
- Meet new people, have new opportunities, gain new experiences
- Build friendships and become part of our HYC Crew!
Recruitment for HYC occurs during October and November each year so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the chance to join HYC via our Hurunui Youth Programme socials. #hurunuiyouth
We have a part time youth worker based out of the three Hurunui Area schools. The youth worker develops youth informed activities and events in and out of school. We look to create positive opportunities for our taiohi that will offer ways to connect with others, build relationships, explore self-development and seek out what’s needed to achieve their best self.
