Millie-Jane McIlraith (Hurunui College) - Chairperson
Hi, my name is Millie-Jane and I attend Hurunui College.
I am 16 years old and this is my third year on the Hurunui Youth Council.
Tell us a little about yourself: In my spare time I compete in clay target shooting, with my most recent achievement being the New Zealand Open Women's Skeet Team. I also love hunting and fishing and the occasional debate.
What issue are you passionate about? Equal opportunities for all.
What animal would you be? Giraffe... to reach the top shelf.
Sam Bush (Amuri Area School) - Deputy Chairperson
Hi, I'm Sam.
This is my second year on the Hurunui Youth Council.
Tell us about your interests: My interests are tinkering with things working on cars and playing guitar.
What issue are you passionate about? that more people volunteer and give back, not takers.
What animal would you be? Bird.
Aliannah Thompson (Rangiora High School)
Hey I'm Aliannah.
I'm 15 and attend Rangiora High School. I currently play cricket and I'm involved with my schools Kapa Haka group.
My reason for joining youth council. Try to push into community connections and what I could bring.
What issue you are passionate about? Education and careers.
What animal would you be? Wolf.
Ayame Balila (Amuri Area School)
Hi I'm Ayame
I attend Amuri Area School. I like in-depth reading, I listen to music and I tend to write a lot of creative writing and poetry.
My reason for joining youth council. To give a different view as an immigrant in community.
What issue you are passionate about? Equal opportunity for immigrants being here.
What animal would you be? Cat.
Brad Devine (Employed)

This is my second year on the youth council. In 2022 I meet so many new awesome people and had so much fun at the meetings and events and hopefully this year we can do so many more events.
Tell us about your interests: I enjoy sports, helping people, having fun and meeting new people.
What issue are you passionate about? People to be nice to each other.
What animal would you be? Wolf.
Laura Cundy (Amuri Area School)
Hi, I'm Laura.
I'm 16 and a proud student of Amuri Area School. I was apart of the 2022 HYC and I absolutely loved it. I loved being able to engage with young people in our district and listen to what they want. I loved trying to come up with ideas that can better our community and that young people would also love and benefit of.
Tell us about your interests: I enjoy competitively swimming, reading, meeting new people and helping people.
What issue are you passionate about? Injustice and inequality.
What animal would you be? Honeybee.
Tamzyn Murdoch (Amuri Area School)
Hi, I'm Tamzyn and I attend Amuri Area School.
This is my second year on HYC, last year I learnt a lot; how budgets work, how a meeting is supposed to run and work. I made some new friends and just over all enjoyed my time and experience on HYC.
Tell us about your interests: My interests are horse-riding, playing netball, working in the community and on the farm.
What issue are you passionate about? Homelessness.
What animal would you be? Dog.
Taylor Upritchard (Hurunui College)
Hello, I'm Taylor
I attend Hurunui College and I'm a digital artist and aspiring animator, I plan to start my own business. I'm in a crochet club hosted by my school and plan to help some of the younger kids learn as well.
My reason for joining youth council. I had great time on HYP and want to help people get involved.
What issue you are passionate about? Homelessness and housing.
What animal would you be? Fox.
William Grant (Employed)
Hiya I'm William
My hobbies include recreational flying, road motorcycling, and music (playing in a band as well). I’m also involved in the Waimakariri Air Training Corps, and ranked as an LAC (E-3) in my unit.
My reason for joining youth council. To be heard in the community.
What issue you are passionate about? Drink driving and road safety.
What animal would you be? Wolf or Fox.
William Munsey (Hurunui College)
Hey I'm William
This is my first year on HYC and I attend Hurunui College.
I am a member of the Hawarden Indoor Bowling Club and play in the Crackerjack Outdoor bowls competition every year. I am also a member of the Hawarden Games group. I have just completed an Outward Bound course which has been recognised as one of New Zealand's most challenging experiences.
My reason for joining youth council. In 2020 I was involved with HYP and enjoy it. I enjoyed helping with youth.
What issue you are passionate about? Pests in NZ eating native trees, bush and birds.
What animal would you be? Kiwi.
