Word from the Mayor
With Christmas and the festive season fast approaching I wanted to acknowledge and reflect on the year.
Christmas does provide us the time to be mindful and appreciate those people around you who give valuable guidance and support, so I want to begin with the team of Hurunui District Councillors. As a district we have a range of capable and competent decision makers who have contributed to the district through their various roles within council. They are committed and devoted to our district and I appreciate the time they take to prepare and promote good outcomes for our district.
I am also grateful for all the staff who work and serve our community through their employment with the Hurunui District Council, irrespective of the position it is important that we acknowledge and value their contribution. 2020 has been a year of challenge, this uncertainty has been contained but I am mindful that it has also created an enormous amount of stress, thankfully we have the ability to travel within our country but this may not allow some families to be together over the Christmas period. I trust you are able use alternate ways to connect with loved ones over this period and that we all care for members of our district who may be more vulnerable through this time.
Thank you to St John along with Fire and Emergency service volunteers, who will be providing cover for our district over the holiday period I appreciate your willingness to give yourself and bring your experience, skills and compassion and ask for nothing in return – other than the satisfaction of doing what’s right and good for our community. I would also like to acknowledge the Police within our Hurunui district your presence and devotion to keeping our community safe is respected and appreciated. “Toot for Tucker” was a resounding success in Amberley last week thanks to many community volunteers and I understand that all the foodbanks were grateful for the generosity shown. Thank you for helping make Christmas a time for all to share.
Christmas for me means family and togetherness I am looking forward to some time to spend with our family and enjoy the opportunity to be with our grandchildren and share their joys.
Dave and I wish you all a very happy Christmas, we hope that it brings you peace and laughter and we all look forward to the incoming year of 2021 with the promise for a better tomorrow.
