Planning for future growth and resilience in Waikari and Hawarden
A new one million litre water reservoir on Limeworks Road in Pyramid Valley has now been completed. This is the final part of a four-year project with a long-term vision lens for drinking water stability and resilience to support the communities of Hawarden and Waikari.
Included in this project was also the installation of a new treatment plant on Bishells Road, commissioned in 2023 and includes a second one million litre reservoir.
From the intake at Hurunui River to Waikari township, 20km of pipe has been laid.
A huge thank you to Puketira Deer Ltd Farms for their generosity for allowing Council to use their land to build the reservoir on Limeworks Road.
The existing reservoir in Waikari township will continue to be utilised for providing drinking water.
