We provide talking books on CD or MP3 for customers unable to use printed materials. These talking books are provided by the National Library of NZ and are additional to the Hurunui Library collection.
$1.50 per item for adults, free for youth and children.

ComicsPlus and Magazines Online: Hurunui Library members have access to over 19,000 comics and magazines for all ages in E format. Access to R rated material is limited to adult library members only. You can view and download. They never become overdue and you don't have to return them (you can delete them off your device if you want to).

Borrowing from other libraries
Items can be borrowed from (and returned to) any library in the Hurunui district free of charge. Our courier service runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Items can be interloaned from other libraries throughout New Zealand for $6.20 per item. Please contact your local library or email Interloans to arrange this.
You can reserve an item from the Hurunui Library collection and have it sent to your nearest library for collection. This service is free, however any item designated ‘Hot Favourite’ incurs a charge of $1 when reserved.
Internet and Wifi
Hurunui District Libraries provides free computing and Internet access via the Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa (APNK). This service is available at Hurunui Memorial Library (Amberley), Hawarden, Cheviot, Amuri (Culverden) and Hanmer Springs.
APNK desktop PCs are available for customer use and are installed with a range of software; Microsoft Word, Open Office, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Skype, Adobe Acrobat reader and other programs. Each APNK PC has a DVD and CD drive , USB ports, memory card slots, a webcam and headset.Use of the computers is on a first come, first served basis. At busy times a limit of 30 mins/15 mins per session applies. Aotearoa Peoples Network Kaharoa reserves the right to prevent access to objectionable material.
When you are using library computers you should not:
- attempt to violate our computer system security
- do anything illegal, infringe copyright or view offensive material.
- disturb other people’s use of the library
Free wifi access is also available 24/7 at Amberley, Cheviot and Hanmer Springs Libraries.

- Justice of the Peace: A Justice of the Peace (JP) is available at Amberley library each Friday from 11.30am - 1pm
