Word from the Mayor
Adversity is a state of hardship, difficulty or misfortune that we all face from time to time in our lives. Waiau district is again facing adversity with the loss of another community asset the Waiau Lodge Hotel, built in 1910 it has faithfully served the community as a meeting place and “watering hole” over the years until it faced the misfortune to suffer significant damage in the 2016 Hurunui- Kaikoura earthquake. Managers have come and gone over the years each bringing their own style and flair to the place “Frothy Jack” had the name that suggests he had his own way of pulling a pint. All this now rests with the rich history of Waiau.
