A Word from the Mayor
This certainly is a time to appreciate the talent and flair we have living in our district, with the Waipara Theatre Group currently hosting their annual show, and then Amuri Players over the next two weeks.
Spam-a-lot was the name of the show in Waipara, I thoroughly recommend attending these fabulous community events, the local talent is truly amazing each year finding newbies that rise to the occasion and present a most enjoyable evening of entertainment. I am looking forward to attending the show Mamma Mia hosted by the Amuri Players at the Hanmer Springs Memorial Hall. I suspect I will be equally impressed with the quality of this show.
Whether you are front of stage or working behind the scene, we are all grateful you have undertaken the commitment of attending numerous rehearsals and show nights for us all to enjoy. Magic indeed.
The finals day for the North Canterbury Rugby union undergrade rugby championship were hosted in Amberley over the weekend, a great day of footy with many budding All Blacks participating in the day. Many parents, and grandparents were in attendance which was fun to participate in and support the grandchildren with their sporting excellence.
At the national level Communities 4 Local Democracy are to speak to their submission for the Water Services Entity Bill, at Parliament House on Monday 29th August – I will be in attendance to support Chair, Manawatu Mayor Helen Worboys and Deputy Chair Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon. C4LD is concerned that it expropriates, without compensation, council owned community assets contrary to all principles of law, and it is widely opposed by communities across New Zealand because it removes local voice in favour of a centralized approach contrary to all principles of localism. The Bill as drafted is based on data and analysis that is incorrect and that there are alternate approaches to reform that could achieve a more durable outcome to the long-term benefit of the country.
This coming Sunday is Father Day, a time to reflect and show appreciation to all our “Dads”. Around the world the day is celebrated in a similar manner, usually involving giving gifts to fathers and family activities. “Happy Fathers Day” to all.
