End of the Triennium: looking to the Future
By the time you read this the media will be exploding with interest with the results of the Local Body elections up and down the country. It has been fascinating to watch the large Metro councils as they determine who will be leading the cities over the next 3 years.
Before, we as a district look towards our future, I want to acknowledge the council of 2019-2022, I have been immensely proud of this team of Councillors who have been diligent in their commitment to the district that we serve, we have faced together, a real period of uncertainty with the proposed government reform and the impact of covid-19.
I wish to publicly thank Cr’s Nicky Anderson, Geoff Shier, Michael Ward and Mary Holloway who have chosen to retire at this time, their commitment has been an inspiration to our council, and I thank them and wish them well for their futures.
I am now looking forward to build, a new team beyond 8 October 2022, one which is equally committed and strong, to reflect the desires of our district at large.
The turbulence of the past 3 years is unlikely to be smoothed over the foreseeable future so we must keep focused on the Future for Local Government and consider how we can be best positioned as a district.
We as a country are facing uncertainty with the rising cost of living, a heavy regulated environment and compliance going through the roof. These combined factors are placing a burden on our rural producers and businesses. But on a brighter note there is still much to be grateful for such as the Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC) promotion for the month of October “The North Course” which is a food and beverage challenge for local establishments to create their best North Canterbury dish matched with local beverage. This is a fabulous opportunity to support our local Hurunui business who will showcase some local product.
We are coming into a busy season for the activity calendar, The Hurunui Garden Festival, Amberley A&P show, Country Christmas Fete at Amberley house, and the Hanmer Springs Fete to mention only a few, I would encourage a look at info@visithurunui.co.nz these activities are right on our doorstep and showcase Hurunui at its absolute best. Let’s participate and enjoy.
Look after yourselves.
