A Word from the Mayor
A message of thanks, encouragement and support.
A message of thanks: As many of you will be aware elected members and staff have completed the round of engagement in relation to the proposed draft annual plan.
I would especially like to acknowledge and thank community members who attend the sessions in Hanmer Springs, Culverden, Waikari, Cheviot, Omihi, Amberley and the one zoom session held.
Your council has received written feedback and some residents also choose to attend a workshop to speak to their feedback. Your time and effort to provide feedback, both written and verbal is held in high regard, I appreciate that you have taken time and effort to provide some insights from your perspective, and this will be evaluated and considered at the extraordinary meeting of council. This is a mandatory process for all local authorities to have the annual plan adopted by 30 June 2023.
A message of encouragement: On behalf of the Hurunui District Youth Council, I want to encourage attendance to attend the YES camp. After some strong advocacy particularly from Youth Councillor Sam Bush from Waiau this weeklong residential event, to be held between 10-14 July in Hanmer Springs. This is a fully funded course that is aimed at 16-19 year olds who have an interest or want to find out more about emergency services. The YES camp will provide a taste of real practical experience and the opportunity to work along the professionals and volunteers in our community. If know someone who may be interested please contact Jo Sherwood 02718004655 before 22 June.
A message of support: I have again agreed to participate in “The Big Splash” at the Rangiora RSA this Friday night with funds raised to support the Stroke Support Group in Rangiora, given that many families are affected by stroke it is important that people stand up to support this event. If you would like to support me that would be appreciated. To donate click on this link The Charles Upham Big Splash 2023 (raisely.com) and donate on Marie’s profile.
