International recognition, conversations with our coastal communities
An "innovative and community focussed" software tool developed for the Hurunui District Council has won an international award.
"Coastal Adaptation Explorer," a web-based tool developed by international technology firm Jacobs to assist the Council with its community engagement on coastal hazards has won an award from the United Kingdom's Environment Agency.
The Flood and Coast Conference Excellence Awards were held last week. Hurunui District Council chief executive officer Hamish Dobbie said the software was "innovative and community focussed."
"The Coastal Adaptation Explorer is kit developed to help communities to work through the options as we respond to coastal hazards… We might have pioneered it with Jacobs, but now I understand it is being used by other communities around the world."
