A changing of the guard for Deputy Mayor

Today Hurunui District Council welcomed its new Council for this triennium.

The Inaugural meeting took place in Chambers in Amberley this afternoon, which included a swearing-in ceremony for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors.

The Council for the 2025 to 2028 triennium is Mayor Marie Black, Robbie Bruerton, Christopher Carthy, Vince Daly, Tom Davies, Fiona Harris (Deputy Mayor), Dave Hislop, Steve Hutt, Brett Jones, Chris Scarlet and Pauline White.

Mayor Marie Black has commenced her third term, and with great pleasure she officially welcomed and congratulated Councillor Fiona Harris as Hurunui District’s new Deputy Mayor.

“I am confident Fiona will represent this District with integrity, empathy, and vision.”

Mayor Black expanded on this, complementing Cr Harris for her wealth of experience and a deep understanding of her community.

“She has a genuine commitment to serve our people.”

Cr Harris reflected that out of all the councillors around the table today, Mayor Black and Cr Vince Daly are the only ones who there when she first joined Council 12 years ago.

“It’s a real privilege to have the trust from Mayor Black that I can do the job.”

Cr Harris’ personal goal is to support where needed, be a positive influence and work well together as a Council for the benefit of Hurunui.

“Any little extra help I can be for Mayor Marie, the better.”

Mayor Black commended outgoing Deputy Mayor Vince Daly for his wisdom, integrity and deep commitment to Hurunui District, having served Hurunui District for 21 years. Cr Daly has been Deputy Mayor for five and a half years.

“His contribution goes well beyond this Council table and we continue to be fortunate to have his input as we enter a new triennium.”

Mayor Black is looking forward to building the Council team, and proving to the people of Hurunui every day that she and her fellow councillors will lead their district with heart.
