A Word from the Mayor
This is a particularly vibrant and busy time across our district, with a wonderful array of community events. The Hurunui Garden Festival, Hanmer Springs fete, the Cheviot Garden festival and the Amberley A&P Show has each provided opportunities to showcase the creativity, dedication and community pride that makes Hurunui such a special place to live and do business.
These occasions not only draw visitors to our towns, but also highlights the hard work of local organisers, volunteers, and participants who bring these events to life. Their commitment and enthusiasm ensure that celebrations continue to flourish and strengthen our sense of connection and belonging.
It needs to be recognised that despite the events being hugely successful it was the wind event prior that placed significant stress on the preparations for the organisers.
The wind event not only impacted our farming businesses with shelter belts and fences impacted and irrigation pivots down, I however am also in awe of many of our community who when under the pump have found a way through this untimely interruption to your business and reached out to support your neighbours and friends.
As we head into the warmer months, many may be thinking about Guy Fawkes – I have never been a supporter of home fireworks given the trauma it causes our pets and the increasing risk for fire placing pressure on our volunteer fire fighters, so there is are options and I urge attendance at the family focused public events offered in Waiau, and Waipara these well organised and safe events are managed with fire safety in mind but also offer the kids the chance to be thrilled by the experience.
And how fantastic the North Course returns for the 4th year, with 18 eateries serving up their exclusive North Course dishes each made with incredible local North Canterbury ingredients some even perfectly paired with a North Canterbury wine, beer or coffee. How lucky are we to live in this piece of paradise.
As always please make contact if I can be of any help.
