Detours affecting our local roads

It is a busy start to the year for road rebuilds on state highways in Hurunui. Many of you have been in contact with us about this.

As sections of the state highways are closed for set times as works take place, traffic is being detoured onto Hurunui District Council’s roads.

Please rest assured, the effect of increased traffic on local roads will have no financial burden on Hurunui’s rate payers.

Remediation work will take place once the state highway is reopened, as usual by New Zealand Transport Authority/Waka Kotahi, not Hurunui District Council.

From January 12 until January 30, SH1 Glasnevin northbound has a 24/7 closure between Innes Rd and Georges Rd. Northbound travellers will detour via Douglas Rd, Mount Brown Rd, and Georges Rd, then rejoin SH1. Southbound remains open during all times.

A series of night closures and other traffic management are scheduled for part of State Highway 1 through North Canterbury next month as a major road rebuild is due to be carried out.
