Autumn Show season in the Hurunui
Its only seems like yesterday that I spoke of the autumn show season for 2025 but how exciting the season begins in earnest for Amuri, Cheviot and Hawarden, it’s a time when baking comes out of tins and communities gather with pride.
In a district like ours A @ P shows matter, they connect town and country, they showcase the very best of our farming excellence, livestock genetics that have been refined over the generations are on show, wool and grain grown with care, this undoubtedly demonstrates innovation alongside tradition.
What has stood the test of time is the chance for young people to maybe lead a calf, present a lamb or enter some work competed at school, confidence is built through these occasions, so give it all a go!!!
Along with the opportunity to showcase the best of the best the show is also an economic driver, local businesses benefit and community groups raise some much needed funds but more than that it shows and strengthens our social fabric. I want to acknowledge the show committees who have planned throughout the year so that the show day can run seamlessly your dedication deserves our recognition and our thanks and I would like to especially thank Guy and Marie Blomfield Amuri, Nick and Kelly Hanna Cheviot, Kate and Quinton Boyd as Presidents these people have lead the committees and volunteers throughout the year and deserve our collective support.
Show day also reminds us of our resilience, despite seasonal and market changes year after year our rural communities adapt and continue. The show ring becomes a symbol of the steady determination of putting forward your best effort regardless of the season behind you.
For families, it is tradition, for children it is excitement and memory making, for newcomers it is a warm introduction to district life and for long standing residents it is continuity.
As we head into this autumn show season, I encourage everyone to attend especially your local show but you are welcome to attend them all, participate and support, maybe enter something, volunteer, bring the grandchildren buy local and celebrate the day, because when we support our shows, we are really supporting each other and that, in the end is what keeps our district strong.
