A stepping stone towards independence

Antonio and Georgia Rutherford agreed that a mum teaching her son to drive is not always the best idea….!

Antonio, 17, from Rotherham, has been a recent success story for Hurunui District Council’s Driver Mentor Programme, as a recipient of a well-deserved restricted driver licence.

Currently away on an army training camp, his mum Georgia pitched in on her son’s behalf to share her enthusiasm and gratitude for the Programme.

“It’s a stepping stone towards independence,” she said, adding that tutor Ken was fantastic because he was so calm, easy to talk to and supportive.

“Antonio wouldn’t have listened to me teaching him!” laughed Georgia.

She encouraged anyone who needs an extra bit of assistance to consider the Programme, and would love to see more tutors available in Culverden.

“Thank you everyone for your support, we really appreciated it.”
