Significant contribution to the building industry
At last week’s annual Building Officials Institute of New Zealand (BOINZ) conference, Hurunui District Council’s Building and Property Manager, Kerry Walsh, received an award recognising his significant contribution to the Institute.
BOINZ is a non-profit registered organisation representing more than 1,200 members involved in building surveying and building control across both the public and private sectors. The Institute plays a key role in reviewing, promoting, and advocating for legislation and standards aimed at ensuring safe and healthy buildings throughout New Zealand.
Kerry has dedicated 33 years of service to BOINZ, including roles as both a local branch chair and national chair. Over this time, he has contributed to the development of national guidelines and standards, including submissions to improve the built environment both nationally and within the Hurunui District.
In recognition of his long-standing commitment, Kerry was recently awarded Life Membership of the Institute. He has also represented BOINZ in the development of the Natural Building Standards, supporting more economical and homeowner/builder friendly housing solutions for the Hurunui community.
