Recycling their way to tidiness
The sheds on George and Maree Lucas’ sheep and beef farm in Greta Valley are a lot tidier these days.
Baleage wrap used to be something that was piled up until the end of winter, then in spring there would be a big clean up.
“It’s been a game changer having a bin next to the bales,” said George, who puts the plastic wrap straight into it, then when it’s full its transported to a dedicated location for agricultural recycling.
He said each bin fits about 50 bale wraps.
“It’s about having a simple and tidy process.”
George used to roll the wrapping up and put it in a pile until the end of the season.
“This is better, there’s a lid on the bin too, so the wrap stays dry.”
The Lucas family also recycle their fertiliser, seed and animal food bags and use plastic trench containers for watering trees.
