A family with a vision
Back in July, the Hurunui District celebrated some of its best community serving members at the annual Community Service Awards.
For the next few weeks, Hurunui District will be highlighting the Award recipients, filling you in more on their background stories, and what makes them tick. Enjoy.
This year the Special Mayoral Business Award was received by Harris Farms Cheviot.
It’s been decades worth of hard work that has gone into this achievement, the Harris family setting up its first Butchers Shop in Cheviot in 1956.
Since then, the family run business has supported its district in many ways. Backing volunteer organisations, community events, schools, sports clubs, emergency services and countless other initiatives, just to name a few.
Harris Farms has also been a keen supporting business for the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs programme, showing a willingness to engage and provide leadership for young people seeking employment.
The generosity displayed by what started off as a local butchery, has enabled volunteers to do more, reach further and make a greater impact. Every volunteer, every community project, and every family who has been supported, strengthened and gained benefit, is part of a legacy Harris Farms has created.
