Creativity within the district
One of the great strengths of our district is the remarkable talent, commitment, and community spirit that exists right here in our own backyard. Over recent weeks, many residents have had the opportunity to experience that firsthand through the latest production by the Amuri Players, the outstanding musical CHICAGO.
What a tremendous achievement this production has been. From the moment the curtain rose, audiences were treated to a performance of exceptional quality that would not have been out of place on a much larger stage. The confidence, skill, and dedication displayed by the cast showcased the depth of talent that exists throughout our community.
While the performers naturally take centre stage, any successful production is truly a team effort. Behind every scene change, lighting cue, costume fitting, and musical arrangement stands a dedicated group of volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to bring a vision to life. The success of CHICAGO is a testament not only to the actors and musicians but also to the directors, producers, stage managers, costume makers, set builders, lighting and sound technicians, and the many volunteers who gave countless hours behind the scenes.
Community theatre plays an important role in enriching the cultural life of our district. It provides opportunities for people of all ages to develop new skills, build confidence, form friendships, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Productions such as CHICAGO demonstrate how the arts can bring people together, creating shared experiences that inspire, entertain, and strengthen community connections.
The Amuri Players have once again shown what can be achieved when passion, creativity, and community support come together. Their commitment to delivering high-quality productions year after year continues to make a valuable contribution to the cultural fabric of our district.
On behalf of the Council and our wider community, I extend heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved. Whether you were under the spotlight, working backstage, helping front of house, or supporting in countless other ways, you should be immensely proud of what you have achieved.
Thank you to the Amuri Players for providing such a memorable production and for continuing to showcase the extraordinary talent that exists across our district. CHICAGO has been a shining example of community theatre at its very best, and a reminder that some of the finest performances can be found right here at home.
