Becoming a Mentor
The Hurunui Community Driver Mentor Programme (HCDMP) matches up learner drivers with full-licenced volunteer mentors. The mentors coach and teach safe driving practices to enable learner drivers to pass the restricted driving test.
THE ROLE OF A MENTOR
- Having a passion for driving or inspiring others.
- Helping a learner driver by providing guidance, even when moments are challenging.
- Being a positive role model, encouraging and empowering learner drivers.
BECAUSE IT'S MORE THAN JUST A LICENCE
- The ability to drive means employment opportunities, a sense of community and more ability to connect, and eventually when they have a full licence it's about being able to transport friends and family. Overall, a hugely positive impact on Hurunui's communities.
WHAT YOU AS A MENTOR MUST HAVE:
- A full NZ Driver Licence.
- A commitment to 1-2 hours of driver mentoring per week, following the Programme's framework.
ALL MENTORS RECEIVE
- Mentor training from a professional driving school.
- Ongoing support from the Programme coordinator and driving school.
- Use of our Programme vehicles to support your Mentee's practice.
