Membership Programme

The Membership Programme was created in response to a group of local users that wanted to be able to access the pool for early morning swimming. This is a time period that is uneconomical and difficult to recruit lifeguards for – but the group of swimmers proposed a concept to develop sustainable model and operating procedures that would allow them to swim safely in an unsupervised pool.

The current programme has grown from there and now offers three different membership types.

Membership numbers are capped to ensure accessibility at peak times. Currently we have plenty of places available for new members – however if application numbers exceed availability a ballot will be held.

Membership is only open to adults who are competent swimmers, and is solely for lane swimming and aqua jogging fitness. All terms and conditions must be agreed to and signed each season, and a health & safety induction induction must be attended before new members will be issued with an access card. Members cannot swim alone and are responsible for safely removing the pool covers in the morning and reinstating them in the evening – instruction is provided on this.

Platinum 6am – 9am and 6pm – 9pm $225 (Gold Card holders $195)

Gold 6am – 9am $195 (Gold Card holders $175)

Silver* 6pm – 9pm $185 (Gold Card holders $165)

Membership access card - New or Replacement card $30.00

* Note: evening sessions are at a reduced fee due to Tuesdays and Thursdays having Aquafit classes in the pool until 6.45pm, and the public (adults) have access between 7pm- 8.30pm. Learn to swim classes may also use a lane or two on some evenings.

In addition, we are pleased to be able to offer members a special access privilege this season - that in addition to your exclusive membership timeslots, every membership type will have the added bonus of free access to the pool any time between 9am – 6pm, except when there are classes, private bookings, school use, staff training etc.

Membership does not include admittance to aquafit classes, swimming lessons etc.

Members are able to use the pool in the shoulder season – generally a month before it opens to the public and 2 weeks after it closes, however they must have paid all fees and have completed the H&S induction and comply with the Clause 4 terms and conditions provisions.

Applications close at noon on Wednesday 10th September 2025. If the number of applicants exceed the number of places available a ballot will take place with priority given to residents of the South Ward. If there are still places available after this time then these will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

By completing the application form the Member/Pass Holder named confirms that they have read the terms and conditions and agree to always abide by them.

The Council will not issue a Membership Pass to anyone who does not meet all the criteria outlined.

The Council may immediately cancel a pass if the Pass Holder fails to comply with these terms and conditions at any time. A refund will not be provided.

The Membership Pass is only for the person purchasing the pass - you are not able to bring a friend, family members or children with you or share the pass.

Membership Season Pass T's & C'S

Payments can only be made at Amberley Council Office or online. Please contact us now if you want to arrange a payment plan for your membership.

If paying online – the bank account number for internet payments is 03-0802-0946666-00.
Please include your Surname and initials in the reference field and the word “mempool” in the particulars of the payment details.

H&S Induction sessions will be held for new members and also any current members wanting a refresher. Card collection and payments can also be made at these sessions. To book a time please contact amberley.pool@hurunui.govt.nz

CCTV is in place, but our best form of ensuring compliance is by all of our members taking ownership of ‘their’ pool and playing their part so that the membership programme can continue to be offered.
