SEED is a local initiative designed to support young people aged 15-24 as they transition from school into their next chapter. Over a 10-week programme, participants grow confidence, learn practical skills, explore different industries, take part in community projects, and strengthen their self-management abilities.
What we do:
Over past courses, we have visited organisations like mechanics, vineyards, preschools, tourism businesses, tertiary education provider, outdoor education centres, fire-fighting services and more! Every course is tailored to the current group, so we can focus on their interests and potential career pathways.
What our young people gain:
Along with experience in a range of different organisations, young people will have the opportunity to gain a first aid certificate, drivers’ licence, CV and cover letter. We will also practice our skills such as cooking, interviewing, reliability, communication, teamwork and more.
Who this is for:
If you (or a young person you know) is aged 15-24 and lives in the Hurunui district, they are eligible to apply. The course is ideally suited to those who aren’t engaging or attending school and have a willingness to develop their journey into employment and/or further education. Our young people drive their own journey on this course; a can-do attitude is essential!
What you need to bring:
Just yourself! We provide transport around the district, as well as any equipment needed. Food and drink will be provided; however, we encourage our young people to bring their own packed lunch – as they would in a job or external course.
