Kia Ora. I’m Mark Vidal. A year 12 student from Amuri Area School and this is my first year as a Hurunui Youth Councilor 2026. I spend my free time being with my dad, creating music, singing in the shower, shredding on the guitar, playing basketball, cooking, reading a book and gaming.
I am a follower of Chirst and as a young Christian, i have experienced mental health issues like depression and anxiety. I would love to use myself as an example for young teenagers who struggle with their personal wellbeing.
We differ in culture but being able to express it and share it with other people is another way to create unity.
This year, i also want to help out the youth by opening new opportunities for them.
I am looking forward towards 2026 as a member of HYC.

Zinnea Cohen (Hurunui College)
Kia ora, my name is Zinnea. I am a Year 13 student at Hurunui College, and this is my second year on the Hurunui Youth Council.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time with my friends.
Road safety is a major issue in our district, particularly for rural youth, and it is something I am very passionate about.
I am also committed to supporting students during the transition from primary to secondary school, as I understand how overwhelming this change can be and how much anxiety and stress it can cause.
My plan for 2026 is to educate young drivers about the dangers of the road so they can become more responsible and aware.
I have already taken steps toward this goal by establishing a SADD (Students Against Dangerous Driving) group at my school, and I am currently collaborating with another school to help them set one up as well.
